Hi! My name is Sarah Smookler and I was born and raised in Evanston. I am a graduate from the University of Delaware, where I studied Special and Elementary Education and minored in Human Development Family Studies and Disability Studies. At the University of Delaware I was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and held a position in the philanthropy chair; I also was in a few clubs, including Autism Speaks where I held a position as an Executive Member for 3 years. I have been babysitting children since I was in 8th grade and have taken care of children from as young as 7 months old to 12 years old. For the past four summers I have worked as an Inclusion Aide for a child with disabilities at Evanston camps. I have worked as a Special Ed counselor at Park School, a school for people with special Read more needs, and other recreational camps in the Evanston area. I have also been working at the summer/fall Evanston Farmers Market for 7 years now. In Evanston I have volunteered many hours with the Special Olympics as well as the Evanston Township High School Best Buddies club, where I held a position as the Vice President my senior year of High School, and Book Buddies club (tutoring students with disabilities). Also during my time at Evanston High School I was the President of Latin club, and played Lacrosse both on and off season. I am a recent graduate, have recently finished my two semesters (24 weeks) of student teaching at UD and am looking to find a job as a Special Education teacher.
