I am a (slightly) older, college-educated adult who is new to the Oak Lawn area. I was born and raised in Mississippi, taught Sociology and Marriage and Family at a community college for 13 years, met a gentleman from the Oak Lawn area, and before I knew it, here I was in Illinois! I've been around children of all ages for most of my life, as my mother was the director of a moderately-sized child care facility. I would often sub for the Infant to 2 y.o. caregiver when needed, in addition to other ages. I have five nieces and nephews, all of whom I bathed, changed their diapers, fed them, played with them - I was a surrogate mom of sorts. It's amazing to me how fast time flies. Now all but two are grown and married. I am very comfortable with newborns and understand the special care they Read more they need. My childcare philosophy is based on the premise that loving interaction is key to a child's intellectual development. Positive reinforcement is the best teacher. In the case of infants, coddling them, rocking them, playing with them - all of these things are not only necessary (and fun!) but also provide a foundation on which to build the child's feelings of self-efficacy and self esteem as they get older. I am CPR/AED certified, both adults and infants. Coming from an education background, I am a very patient person, detail-oriented, an open communicator and accepting of instruction and constructive criticism. On a side-note, I am at a point in my life financially that I can pursue a new career path, and I am currently studying to become a Certified Personal Trainer and Health Coach. My goal is to work with elderly clients and people with physical disabilities. I am looking for a caregiver position because I know it is something that I will love and enjoy doing.
