I grew up in a loving household with three siblings and three dogs (plus a guinea pig and a rabbit) in Plymouth, Minnesota. My family has always been a busy one with school, church activities, hockey year-round, vacations, and just the every-day go, go, go of family life, which I so enjoy. I came down to Illinois to attend Wheaton College where I graduated in May of 2018 with a B.S. in biology. I will be in the western suburbs of Illinois until August 25th then I'll begin a Master's of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. After graduate school, I plan on attending medical school and specializing in pediatrics. While I've never nannied/baby sat for an entire summer, I do have lots of experience with kids of all ages. In high school and on breaks during college, I'd care for young kids for family friends whenever there was Read more an opportunity to do so. My family has done emergency respite care for nearly four years. I've developed a deep bond with the child my family cares for and am most thankful for his presence in my family's life. I've also worked at a summer hockey camp where I instructed kids ages 5-16 in off-ice hockey drills and on-ice hockey drills. As a sports camp counselor, I also functioned as a baby-sitter/nanny, helping with kids tying their skates and helping everyone to get along with each other. Lastly, I volunteered with my family in my church's nursery (ages 2-3) from 8th grade through High School. This past summer (2017) I worked as a direct support professional at a children's group home (ages 16-18) where I helped children with intellectual disabilities in their day-to-day activities. Although these children were high school aged, I grew in my ability to listen, to encourage, and be patient by displaying the utmost empathy and compassion. I love sports (especially hockey, but I just love being active), going on long runs and bike rides, reading a good book, camping in the Boundary Waters, hiking, learning about the lives of other people and serving others in whatever capacity I can. I am CPR and AED certified and also have crisis prevention training by the Crisis Prevention institute. I also have a completed a 30 hour Autism Spectrum Disorder training course from the Autism Society of Minnesota.
