Hi! My name is Mckenna, I just turned 18 and I am about to start college to be a k-3rd teacher! I just recently found 1 year ago that child care is my passion. Although I have been taking care of children since I was 14 years old, I truly believe that it is my purpose in life to help children thrive in this ever changing world. I’m aware that this line of work is often looked down on and is not very well liked by people my age, although I do believe that this is what I am meant to do and look forward to making this a full time career. My name is Cathy and I have been working with children for over 30 years. My grandmother was the director of the First United Methodist Nursey School in Santa Monica, California where I would spend days playing and reading to children starting at the age of 13. I nannied for 6 month old twins in the summer of my junior year of high school and for two older children full time the following summer. In college I worked at Greenlake After School Program in Seattle as a teaching assistant for ages 5-12 years my junior and senior years. In the summers during college I traveled back to California where I worked again at the nursery school as a teacher for the three year old group. My responsibilities included playground supervision, art and reading activities, lunch prep and nap time supervision. I graduated from the University of Washington and moved to Spokane where I worked at the YMCA in the three year old room and substituted in the infant room frequently. I married into the military and had three children of my own who are now in their teens. We have all frequently helped watch children of our military friends and still help babysit as well as pet sit/ foster. I have been certified in first aid and CPR numerous times and can provide references upon request. Put simply, I love being around children! They are such a joy and I find happiness in helping provide a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow. I respect their feelings and feel confident in my ability to provide a routine with structure, yet can adjust to their needs if the occasion arises with patience and care.
