Hey there! I'm Kelly Whalen, an NC native who is returning to the area to get my MSW from my alma mater, UNC! I am the second oldest of six and spent the majority of my childhood taking care of my younger siblings. I began babysitting regularly at age 12 for families in my neighborhood. I worked as a summer league swim coach for all of high school, teaching kids from 4-18 years old. In college, I was a coach (in Durham!) for the national non-profit, Girls on the Run. I mentored 12 fifth graders twice a week for a year, discussing positive and healthy friendships and the joy of running! Most of my experience working with youth comes from my summer employment throughout my college years. I worked as a trip leader for the company Overland Summers, leading bike touring excursions all across the United States for students 7th Read more to 12th grade. Most recently, I led a six-week cross country bike tour, supervising a group of 12 high school juniors and seniors on fully loaded touring bikes. My current certifications include Wilderness, Advanced CPR/AED (adult, child, infant), and Lifeguarding I drive a 2013 Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

Kelly has been watching my daughter 2-3x/mo since January, and she is just wonderful! Her communication and promptness is consistently great, she is delightful with my daughter, gentle, and on it with maintaining potty training, and can always get her to sleep. Kelly tidies/cleans up after activities/meals, follows directives, has solid common sense, & confidence with children, which is very important with keeping structure. Easy recommendation!!
