I'm Emma, and I'm a senior at American University studying International Relations. I have been working with children in a variety of cultural and educational environments since high school. I spent my time in high school leading a children's after school nutritional and fitness program and volunteering at the local HOPE House for Children, where I worked with kids on social skills and literacy. After graduating, I moved to Paris at 18 to be a live-in au pair for 2 kids, 5 and 7. For about 35 hours a week, I was responsible for picking them up from school, bringing them to activities, dinner time, bath time, playtime, emotional support, and all the things that come with living with a host family. During this time, I also got a second job as an English immersion caretaker for two boys, 3 and 5. In 2018, I started classes at AU and Read more over time, have had a few babysitting jobs in the neighborhood - with ages ranging from 3 months to 12 years old, as well as weekly English literacy tutoring with DC Reads. One of these jobs was as a babysitter for 2 girls, where I helped get them up and ready for school every morning! In the summer of 2019, I spent 5 weeks volunteering at Eleonas Refugee Camp in Greece leading children's educational and extracurricular activities like preschool, gymnastics, skateboarding, as well as adolescent English lessons. Most recently, I spent last Spring as an English tutor for 12 year old twins, and this Fall as an English tutor/caretaker for a 3 year old boy. Next semester, I will be taking my last semester of courses online, while living in a house in Georgetown with a few roommates in grad school there. The house is extremely Covid-conscious, as am I. To live there, I signed an addendum stating there are no guests allowed in the house until May, at least, and I will be keeping my bubble extremely small.
