I just retired as a tenured professor and I want to engage in that which I have always most enjoyed; working with children 3-6 years old. I was a single mother who always had my son and his pals with whom I engaged in the most rewarding activities of discovery with them, be it reading with them, doing nature hikes, giving them pony rides (we live on a horse farm), or taking them to museums. I also worked many summers on Martha’s Vineyard at the Karey Children’s camp which was so rewarding. I miss the intellectual curiosity of children because college students seem to have lost it due to the over reliance on technology. I am very physically fit, ride three times a week, hike, and swim weekly. I have traveled the world to all over Europe, Scandinavia, the Caribbean, but now is not the time to travel, so I Read more would love to be able to enjoy my new free time making a difference in a child’s life. Every College & University in Maryland requires FBI fingerprinting and checks, as does TSA pre-check. I have all of those clearances and am not paying to duplicate that here. I have a LinkedIn profile with my professional record and endorsements which you are free to access. I have many colleagues with young children who can attest to my babysitting skills, as well as parents of friends. I just, obviously, have not done it professionally during the time I have been a full-time professor. I am someone who will energetically interact with your child (not be distracted {as my students are by their phones} continuously). I would only allow "screen time" if you do so as part of your parenting. I personally think it is one of the biggest issues inhibiting the healthy curiosity and intellectual development of children. I am committed to inspiring a sense of wonder in nature and a love of reading. I will also respect whatever your parenting entails. I look forward to working with you and your child and hope to give you the peace of mind that experienced, older caregivers gave me when I was raising my son.
