The first thing I would like you to know about me is that I am an artist that works in several mediums and I have worked with children and teens in a wide range of these activities, both as a volunteer and for work. My experience includes teaching preschool music, running the Children's Area at Fiber Frolic, and costuming 180 Middle School students for a Shakespeare play. The outdoors is another love- camping, gardening, bird watching, etc. The kids I work with spend time doing things- going to the library, making art, creating stories, learning to bake bread or flying kites. Children are learning at all times so want them to have exposure to exciting, engaging activities that help make them life-long learners. I am looking for part-time work because I have gone back to school to become a secondary ESL teacher. Before having my daughter, I went to Music Read more School and Harvard Extension. for a wide variety of children and adults for 40 years. I have worked in the Human Service field and schools, as well as in homes. I am a Certified Ed Tech III, and I have passed the State of Maine background criminal history check to work in schools, so I can provide that criminal background check. In Boston I tutored conversational English and literacy for many years, so I am comfortable working with ESL children. I have also worked for a pet sitting agency, volunteer transporting wild birds to Avian Haven, and have had a wide variety of animals in my life, so I am also comfortable with pets. Working at an adult residential agency in the Boston Area for 15 years, I was certified every year to dispense meds, had First Aid and CPR training, fire safety training, nonviolent crisis intervention training, and many workshops regarding the health and welfare of the people I took care of. I have a lot of experience dealing with emergency situations, having been sent in with clients who were having heart attacks or other medical emergencies, and I am an excellent medical advocate. Working in Maine Schools for ten years I have taken workshops on literacy, child behavior, and many topics related to education and caring for children. Although I am not currently certified in First Aid, I was certified for more than thirty years, since it was part of the public school curriculum and one of the annual certifications for my job in Massachusetts.
