Hello! My name is Mercedes and I am 23 years old. I am currently working toward becoming a Special Education teacher. I work in a center-based program that supports students with a wide range of disabilities, and most of my experience has been in the SCI (Severely Cognitively Impaired) and SXI (Severely Multiply Impaired) classrooms. In addition to my work in the classroom, I also work as a Youth Specialist, which is a flexible position that allows me to continue gaining experience supporting children and families. I am currently attending Washtenaw Community College and plan to transfer to Ferris State University’s online program in Fall 2027. I am pursuing a degree in Early Elementary Education with a K–12 Special Education endorsement. Outside of school and work, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, and training my miniature dachshund, Fozzie. I live with my boyfriend and his family. I have been babysitting since middle school and have experience working with children and young adults ages 3–26, though most of my experience is with children ages 3–14. I have worked at two daycare centers, volunteered at an overnight camp for children in foster care, worked at Dexter’s summer day camp, and coached middle school girls’ lacrosse. I am CPR certified and hold additional certifications that I would be happy to provide upon request.
