Hi there, I'm Kylie! I’m 22 and I've been working with children since I was 12 years old and never stopped! I took an Early Childhood Development class in high school where I got to work with children aged 0-6 for 3 days a week. My passion for teaching and caring for children took off from there! I attended EMU for Elementary and Early Childhood Education (ECE) for 3 years; I'm currently taking a break from school while things in the world settle down a bit. During my time at EMU, I tutored middle school students for a semester and assisted them with homework, observed infants and toddlers through multiple stages of their development, and actively participated and assisted in preschool classrooms. I also nannied part time for 3 months until the pandemic, then switched to full time. The child I cared for attends Ann Arbor schools, so I helped Read more her daily with online work and homework. Though I only watched one child, we regularly held playdates with other kids in the neighborhood, from ages 3-12. Finding developmentally appropriate activities for a wide range of ages is a challenge, but it’s something I love to do! I don’t have much extensive hands-on experience with infants, but it’s an age I have and truly adore working with and would love to gain more experience in! I was a student that struggled a LOT in school, and I’m sure as a parent witnessing the school system from an outsider’s perspective, you can understand why. Because most schools are centered around common core and a “standard way of learning,” it leaves little room for students with different learning styles and abilities. Being one of these “forgotten” students, I believe my perspective in the education program at EMU was unique. It’s easy for me to see things from a teacher AND student’s perspective, which I found there was often a disconnect between. Education and working with children should be just that: working WITH them. I believe children deserve respect just as anyone else does. How can I expect a child to respect me if I do not offer that same level of respect? I like to develop mutual understanding and with the children I care for, all the while learning who they are as people, how they communicate, their passions and interests, likes, dislikes, and what works for them. Because of this, some qualities I excel at are flexibility, adaptability, and thinking quickly on my feet to make changes to suit individual needs. I’d love to work with you and your child or children, I look forward to hearing from you!
