Hi, My name is Mary Schneider and I currently live in Westland, Michigan. I am in my senior year at University of Michigan-Dearborn. My major is in Children and Families with a concentration in Social Agency. I will graduate April 2024. My goal is to become a Child Life Specialist or Public Health Educator to parents and families at Mott Children's Hospital down the road. I hope to learn how to be their emotional support system and help them cope through any difficult moment. Children are vulnerable especially coming into a hospital environment that they don’t typically know or visit often. So, I want to create a safe and welcoming environment for all patients when they come to visit. A fun fact is I love to cook and bake during my off time. I used to go to Schoolcraft College for Culinary School. That is a passion of mine, and Read more my dream is to one day become the next MasterChef. Another fun fact is that even though I’m a senior, I’ve been attending college for 7 years now. I received my Associates in Science from Schoolcraft College in 2017. I went to Wayne State for two years and never obtained a degree from there. Then, I went to Schoolcraft for a year and got a taste of what it’s like being in the culinary world. Now, this is my second year here at UMD and I feel like I fit right in. I love the small campus atmosphere and am proud to have figured out my calling in life. I worked as a Lead Child Care Provider/Transitory Lead for Dearborn Public School System from January of this year until May. I watched over elementary students from grades kindergarten-5th both before and after school. This was a job that I particularly enjoyed because I got to see every single one of my students’ personalities. This helped in implementing activities and pertaining that with what certain age groups like, whether it would be educational or exploring something new and creative. I applied for University of Michigan Ann Arbor for Fall 2024 and hope that I get in for the School of Public Health. Some other fun things I like to do, especially this time of year, is gardening, riding my bike, cooking, baking, exercising, and enjoying outdoor activities such as mini golf. I want to also pick up on writing more poetry and haikus because that was my favorite past time as a kid. I’d like to take flying lessons at the Ann Arbor Airport. It’s always been something I’ve been interested in. One day, I’d like to fly around the country in my own aircraft.
