After my "journalism" career (too many ad agencies and a faltering book industry), I began working with children, the elderly, and pets. Being a trusted, reliable presence in their lives provides a life balance that I enjoy, and utilizing a care provider with a good attitude is beneficial for everyone involved. For a few years (until I broke my arm skiing on too much ice), I worked part-time as a CNA (Cert. Nursing Assistant), but began spending more time as a substitute for teachers and paraprofessionals in local schools. When Covid came along, I teamed up with a family who wanted to keep a close watch on safety for their premature baby. I was lucky to find a temporary position that allowed me to return to this family to care for their second child, who is now in pre-school (I still babysit on their "date nights." I have raised two sons, one diagnosed with ADHD and the other with Asperger Syndrome (a high-functioning form of autism), conditions that often swim in the same genetic pool. I played on their strengths when offering activity choices to them, and today they are both doing well as young adults following their own career paths. When my children were very young, I taught Sunday school to grade-school-aged children while running a licensed in-home childcare center. I love to do individual outdoor activities that match the weather, although walking my shared Corgi must happen regardless of temperature or precipitation. I tend to eat very well -- my goal is to retain as much of my physical, spiritual, and mental health as possible. I love sharing this knowledge with little ones and helping them to grow into who they were meant to become.

I am 19 years old and I am currently employed at Children of Hope Preschool in Ramsey. I am in the process of getting my CDA (child development associate credential) I am CPR and First Aid certified. I have a reliable vehicle and a clean driving record. I’ve been babysitting for about 3 years, experienced in ages 0-11 and working at the preschool for 2 years now! I recently moved to Hugo after living in South Dakota for many years. While there, I consistently babysat for a family with five children, ranging in age from a newborn to 10 years old, multiple times a week for four years. Id like to share a bit about myself, I’m Ellie, I’m 21, I’ve worked with children my for what feels like my whole life… being the family babysitter I’ve always loved kids, childcare centers became my life the last few years after graduating in 2020. Though I love working within the centers, planning curriculum, crafts, and weekly activities.. after a few years I’ve recently have decided to try stepping out of my comfort zone, shifting my focus in my education and career.
