Hello there, when I was a bright-eyed hyper-active eight year old, I received news that I was going to be an auntie for the first time. As time flew by in preparation for the baby girl, as the baby of my family I was exuberant to finally have someone in my large family of six children who would be younger than me. The day came, and my life was forever changed by that beautiful little girl, Brooklyn Jean Monyok. After that she would be dropped off at my house every day and I would alternate between taking care of her, and doing my school work through out the day for many years. I was there through her scary first year that she caught pneumonia, and she learned to walk. I was there when we started teaching her to read, and ride a bycycle. I've taken her on nature hikes, and Read more long days on the beach. I've been able have to heart-wrenching moments when she says "I love you." or hugging her after she's had a bad day. She asks me the important questions about life. No doubt there are times when I have been grumpy, or Brooklyn has been naughty, but that's human nature and we get over it because I as the adult have learned how to process and take care of my own emotional health, and I have been teaching her to do the same. 12 years later, we have countless memories, and a precious bond marked by trust and love. Stories like that are my favorite reason to work with children, I get to help little person become who they are meant to be, create a strong interpersonal bond with trust, and have fun (most of the time) while doing it. Most of my experience has been informal in taking care of my nieces and nephews, but I have also worked as a youth group leader for 6th graders in a church setting which included facilitating group discussion, planning out events for group time, working with other leaders to come up with a curriculum to best inform our kids about God, lifestyle, and interpersonal relationships last year, and taking the kids out for one-on-ones to get to know each child better. My other formal child work was taking care of toddlers in a nursery for a church setting this included, playing with the children, organizing and cleaning up for story time and snack time, taking kids to the bathroom, and reprimanding children if they were out of line. I have enjoyed all of my childcare responsibilities, and both of those formal jobs did include a back ground check that I passed with flying colors.
