I am 21 years old. I live in Shakopee, MN with my parents, sister & her boyfriend. I am a single mother of a 16 month old son. Sadly he does not live with me, he stays with his father and I rarely get to see him. I am struggling to cope due to the current custody battle I'm in with the father of my son. I am unemployed and have my high school diploma. I am also looking forward to starting school in the fall. My experience taking care of kids has steadily grown due to the job I worked during a couple summers at a daycare. My responsibilities consisted of preparing the kids meals, helping them clean up after themselves, supervising playtime indoors as well as outdoors, getting the children ready for field trips, and disciplining when necessary. The age of children at the daycare ranged anywhere from Read more a couple months to 6-7 years old. During the course of of the day I was expected to keep a log of each child's activities and behavior throughout the day. I also worked at a kids play zone called, Pump It Up! My responsibilities at this job were to prepare the party room for the birthday kid with his/her theme. When guests start to arrive my job was to greet and take the presents to the party room and tell them to wait in an area until the party starts. When it does and the birthday kid arrives I play the safety video and go over the rules and expectations in the two play rooms. I then introduce the guest of honor and get the kids to sing "Happy Birthday". During the two 45 minute sessions in each play room I am to play and participate with the kids and keep them safe while making sure the rules are followed. After an hour and a half the kids go into the last room where pizza and cake is served and my job is to serve them and make sure they have enough to eat as well as drink. After they are done eating I am to clean up and hand out presents. While the child opens presents I am to write down what was given and who by which is then given to the parent which helps them more easily write out thank-yous. Along with working with children I was blessed with one of my own in March of 2013. I have taken CPR classes, shaken baby syndrome classes and during my pregnancy I met with an in-home nurse who taught me what to expect and gave me tips and showed me tricks to better take care of my son. My baby is now 16 months and healthy and happy. He is on track with his development and growth.
