Childcare has been my sole purpose since I was 11. I am now 35. Growing up, I was the primary babysitter for my 3 younger brothers, my cousins and for all of the neighborhood children—which alone amounts to over 20 years of experience. I believe in reaching children using imagination. For example, while teaching two 8-year-olds their spelling words, I smeared shaving cream on the kitchen table (with their mom’s permission) and while I quizzed them, had them write out the words in the shaving cream. I worked briefly for the organization Boys Hope Girls Hope. The teens there were from various backgrounds with challenges to overcome in order to reach their academic goals. I took many training courses while there. I was also assigned a book called Parenting with Love and Logic, which I have used to develop a communication and discipline style.
