As a senior in high school I was the nanny/ babysitter for a single mother (nurse) with three children. One a 12 y/o girl, and twin boys age 7. I worked two restaurant jobs on top of this. Twice a week I would arrive at their house at 6am, get the children ready and take them to school, then head to school myself by 8. From 2-ish to 8 p.m. I would be responsible for picking them up from school, ensuring their homework was finished, making them dinner, and getting the younger ones to bed. Sometimes we would make trips to the park or river, and I always encouraged them to be outside and off their devices. I was also responsible for making sure their two dogs and cat were fed and let out by the children (as their chores). Every other week the two days I watched the kids Read more would change. On weeks that I watched them Friday and Saturday, I stayed with them from 6am-around 8 p.m. on Saturday. When I'm back in town I will sometimes visit the kids and they make me feel so loved. I was mostly ignored by the older sister, but I grew close to the twins and often miss them. I think I'm a good caregiver because although I had to correct the children, sometimes discipline, and make them do things they had to do but didn't want to, at the end of the day they always still liked me. They are very hard-to-please children, and to be frank, quite disobedient. But If the boys disrespected me, I almost always would receive an apology (without even asking for one!) Kids have always seemed to be drawn to me and it doesn't surprise me much that even after being managed by me (and pitching lots of fits) the kids still love me. It's always a nice thing when kids love you.
