Hello! I've been a stay-at-home mother to two boys who are now 15 and 12, and I am looking for opportunities to do what I've loved most - playing with and taking care of kids. I used SitterCity and Care.com as a young mom to find help, and now that my children are (at least partially!) grown, I'm excited to lend a hand and help out other families. I've had many, many years of experience with children, starting when I worked with a family of three kids as a mother's helper at age eleven - I worked with this family until I left for college, and I babysat other families until college graduation. In high school and college, I worked most summers as a camp counselor, including working two summers at a camp for emotionally disturbed children and teens. As a young adult, I got my Master's in Social Work Read more and have held various positions working with high school and college-age young people in afterschool programs in Boston as well as here in Chapel Hill at UNC Undergraduate Admissions. Since having kids, I've worked part-time as a grant writer, however, my passion has been raising my own children, who each have special needs in different ways. I feel comfortable working with infants through middle schoolers and understand the needs and abilities of different ages. Both my children had health issues as infants, and I am comfortable helping out with children with special medical, behavioral, and/or emotional needs. I enjoy playing outside and taking kids on outings as much as doing arts & crafts projects and reading to/with them, and I am as handy with a nerf-gun as I am playing dress-up or Thomas the Train (over, and over, and over again!). I have lots of ideas for games and things to do, but I like to follow children's lead and I will get to know your child's likes and dislikes to help them enjoy their time away from their primary caretakers. I am happy to help with light household chores as well as take care of any pets as needed. I have also taught my boys a year of homeschooling when they were in 3rd and 5th grade, and have experience tutoring up through middle school.
