Hi! My name is Shay and I absolutely love working with children because I enjoy helping them learn, grow, and feel safe and supported. I began babysitting at 16 years old, and over the years I have gained experience caring for children in both home and educational settings. Working with children has always come naturally to me, and I truly enjoy building positive relationships with both kids and families. I currently work as a long-term substitute teacher with Wake County just gained a Master's in library and information science with School Media as my concentration. My classroom experience and experience as a Library Assistant has strengthened my ability to manage routines, support children emotionally, encourage learning, and create a fun but structured environment. I especially enjoy working with Toddlers, Preschool and Elementary-aged children and love incorporating reading, educational games, crafts, and creative activities into the day. I also have a Read more special place in my heart for children with special needs, especially non-verbal children. I naturally connect with many children through patience, understanding, consistency, and paying attention to their unique ways of communicating. I truly enjoy creating environments where children feel safe, supported, understood, and included at their own comfort level. My idea of a fun day includes visits to the park, museums, the library, and anywhere else a child can learn and have fun at the same time. I enjoy creating engaging experiences that allow children to explore their creativity, build confidence, and stay active while learning naturally through play and discovery. I am First Aid and CPR certified and understand the importance of safety, patience, and communication when caring for children. Families describe me as dependable, nurturing, attentive, and calm under pressure. I also have experience helping with school readiness, homework support, reading practice, and structured summer learning activities. My goal is always to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children feel comfortable, encouraged, and cared for while giving parents peace of mind knowing their child is in capable hands.
