I volunteer part-time for an organization known as Nathaniel's Hope, or Buddy Break. Buddy Break is a free respite for parents with children with disabilities to safely drop off their children, and the siblings who do not have a disability at one of our locations. The volunteers, called Buddies are each assigned to a child, a VIP (child with a disability) or a Sibling (child without a disability, but a sibling to one). It is our job as a Buddy to care for the child from drop off time, around 10 am, to pick up time, around 1 pm. Working with this organization for over a year, I have gained the skills necessary to work with children with disabilities and without them. I am currently a first-year student at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) with a Major in Nursing. Caring for others has always been a passion of mine and Read more I love having the opportunity to work with children of all ages. Being the eldest sibling out of four, I always tended to my younger siblings and cousins. My youngest sibling is a year old, so I am able to care for young children as well as older children. I have a valid certification in CPR and I will be taking a class in Mental Health First Aid to receive my certification in that next month. Once I have completed that class, I plan to then move on to take a First Aid class and recieve my certificarion.
