Meet Ash
- Comfortable with pets
Hello! I'm Ash (they/them or he/him)! I have been caring for children of a variety of ages since I was 14, so that makes almost 7 years now. I am most comfortable/have the most experience with infants and toddlers, but I am comfortable and willing to care for kids of all ages. **I am not CPR certified yet, but I plan to get that taken care of as soon as possible.** However, I do know how to perform CPR on adults, children and babies. I was certified at one point and have otherwise learned how to do it from my mother (an RN who is certified). **I still plan to get certified** I love to spend time with kids and get to know them! (they all have so much personality)! It's important to me to provide a safe, creative space for learning/developmental opportunities and getting them to engage in activities. Read more Of course, learning and engaging activities differ between age groups and I always take that into consideration. With my years of experience, I've accumulated a plethora of activity ideas for every age group! I also love to get creative (I am currently going to school for my BFA - I sure hope I'm creative! lol)! Whether that be coloring/drawing/painting, sidewalk chalk, making crafts, playing pretend, storytelling, getting outside, etc. I love all of that and I love to encourage kids to get creative too, no matter their age! The most important things to me while caring for a child are as follows; engaging with the child, entertaining them, keeping them happy and busy (ie. for older kids, I typically try to get them to do something other than video games/electronics), independent play (if wanted/needed). But the one thing that is of utmost importance to me that takes priority over everything else is the safety and well-being of the child(ren) in my care. As for other things I offer as well: I can cook, clean, do housework, am willing to drive children, run errands, etc. I'm willing to do most anything around the house if you ask! And as for availability, my schedule is a bit wonky with my college courses, but I am free almost every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And any other day from 6am to 11:30am and then in the evening 7:00 or later (these times could vary depending on driving distance). If it's easiest, figuring out a time as needed as opposed to a set schedule has worked really well for me and parents in the past! I am super LGTBQ+, BIPOC, disability friendly, pet friendly, etc. I am a generally open-minded and caring person to begin with! The only issue I have is that I'm allergic to cats which is very unfortunate because I love cats :( but other than that, I'm good with all pets! Some experience I have with caring for kids with special needs, unique situations, etc.: - cognitive/developmental disorders/delays - speech delay, fine motor skills, sensory issues - kids on the autism spectrum - separation anxiety - social/communication difficulties - mental health issues in general I also have a lot of ways to help (usually older) kids handle/cope with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, ADHD, etc. It's extremely important to me to create the safest, most comfortable environment possible for any child within my care. Woo! That was a lot! Thanks for bearing with my word vomit there lol! I want to make sure all the details are laid out for you so you're not left wondering or worrying or having a bunch of questions. But I am more than happy to answer any questions/concerns you may have! :D
