My educational background has prepared me for the role of a teaching assistant. In particular, my study of Psychology has given me a solid background so that I can promote daily independence while helping individuals achieve personal goals. I have also taken multicultural psychology classes so I can better understand different cultures that are different from my own. When it comes to leadership experience, I also took an advanced level class for leadership where I gave presentations, discussed topics as a team and then would give my opinions, and also write summaries on articles of leadership styles and passed leaders. Right now I am working as a Residential Counselor and work with children 6-10 years old that have mental disabilities, like autism or mental delays, and behavioral issues. I assist and teach them how to eat, dress, bath, and socialize with others. I also for instance will help educate them Read more by having them do puzzles and games as well as homework. In the facility I also complete progress notes and do my best to improve their life and hope to send them back to their parents in better shape from once they came in. I also have worked at West Bergen Mental Healthcare. At West Bergen Mental Healthcare I am able to help coordinate the group leader in handling what activities are going to be in the social skills group. I also write progress notes for individual children and I can only do this in confidence, which shows I can keep confidentiality of clients no problem. Also, by working with these children I am able to build their trust and confidence that I am there to help them with their social skills. My main career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist, so I am looking for a job that is related to that. I also shadowed an Occupational Therapist in multiple settings for around 120 hours. I was able to observe what an OT does, their daily schedules, and even at times worked with clients and patients. I am able to balance many things at once while being enthusiastic about helping others and promoting wellness to anyone I am helping treat. My main goal in life is to benefit people in anyway I can.
