I've worked with children professionally since I was a young teen and raised three kids of my own to young adulthood. I've always loved kids and first began working as a babysitter, then a part-time nanny, then in high school started tutoring first graders as a volunteer. I also worked as a volunteer ballet teacher for three years and for one semester as an assistant kindergarten teacher. When I went to college, I worked as the youth program director of a nearby church and later as a camp counselor at a horse camp. I then decided against classroom teaching in favor of working as a live-in nanny and home manager which I did for nearly four years (two private families). I had my own family and when my kids went to school, I went back as well and earned a nursing degree. During this time I also took on private Read more tutoring students at a nearby middle school and later worked with three special needs children as a behavioral consultant, in addition to working as a peer mentor with La Leche League and various other volunteer/civil activities. I've had many professional experiences that didn't involve children, including working for the New York Jets and as the Director of Operations for a nonprofit agency that promoted the civil rights of people with disabilities, among others. I'm a professional photographer and writer (freelance) and enjoy cooking healthy meals from scratch, swimming, rollerblading, cycling, playing piano, listening to audio books on all subjects human-development and behavior related, debating philosophical topics, and of course...kids!
