Meet Brittania

Starting in middle school, I began working with children who were younger than me. I was apart of a mentoring program through The Children's Home Society. I went into 6th and 7th grade classes and explained to them why school is important and what they can do to be successful. I was a mentor for a year. In high school, I volunteered as a gym teacher and tutor at the Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County. As a gym teacher, I created and implemented plans to keep the youth active and having fun. During tutoring, I helped students in various subjects such as Math and Writing. Each student is not the same so I came up with ways of explaining subjects in a way the particular student could comprehend and learn. I volunteered here for about two years. During college, I babysat my niece and nephew whenever I went Read more home to visit. Babysitting for me consisted of changing diapers, feeding, playing, and also implementing activities that would help with any type of development. My junior year of college, I volunteered at an organization called Succed2gether. I was a mentor and social media specialist. While there, I mentored inner city children and provided a fun work/play environment as well as promoting the organization via Facebook and Instagram. During my last year of college, I interned with a organization called Anchor House. There I worked with runaway, abused, and at risk youth. I provided 1-on-1 "counseling," kept them engaged through fun learning activities and also helped them to set goals and achieve them. After graduating college, I began working for an organization called City Year which I still currently work for. At City Year, I am an assistant teacher/mentor for 3rd grade students. I work with students who are below grade level and help them get back on track. I create lesson plans and assess behavior, reading levels, etc. to see what areas they need the most improvement. I am a good role model because I have taken my life experiences and turned it into something positive. I not only like to teach by example but I like to help people, especially the youth, believe that they can be much more than what they limit themselves to. I am also CPR/First Aid certified for children and adults. I also have a BA in Psychology.
