My caring for infants and young children began from childhood in a family of seven, helped in the "hands on" care of two sisters born when I was 9 and 11. As a teenager, earned extra spending money as a "paid" babysitter. Then had my own family of four boys, all two years apart. During those early years, I took my role very serious as a stay at home Mom, and whenever someone might ask "What did you do for a living?", I"d answer "I'm in Home Management and Human Development!" I actually homeschooled my oldest son for first and second grade. I've volunteered through the years as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, a children's A.W.A.N.A Club instructor, and then worked as a First Grade Teacher's Assistant at Redeemer Baptist School for a semester, before returning to a working back full-time in a corporate environment. But as Read more time has passed, I too have continued to "grow up" in experience, knowledge, maturity, understanding and wisdom regarding human behavior, especially children. And now from a graduated status in the school of life, I'm now "Grandma Cari" to my sons' six beautiful grandchildren, (13 girl, 9 and 7 boys, two 5 year old girls, and the youngest, a 15 month old girl. So as you can imagine, I have ample opportunity to be a significant presence with them, while I enjoy actively participating in a supportive role in the care, love, nurture, protection, teaching & watching over their young lives. Although not in a "professional" sense, I do consider myself to be more of "Teacher" at heart, mostly from experience and self taught through years of reading books by leading childhood/family educators such as favorite authors/lecturers/talk show hosts, Dr. James Dobson ("Focus on the Family" founder), David Elkind, PH.D ("The Hurried Child"), Daniel Coleman ("Emotional Intelligence") and Maurice J. Elias PH.D., Steven E. Tobias, PSY.D. and Brian S. Friedlander, PH.D. "Emotional Intelligent Parenting" and Malcolm Gladwell ("Blink" and "Outliers"), just to name a few. Yet I've learned to value each life and every human heart from what I have learned from our Creator's Holy Bible. From the beginning of their development, children are our ever learning about life, cause and effect, as they express their own distinct personalities, but need a good example and guidance from parents, caregivers, & older siblings in character development in the areas such as first-time obedience, honesty, kindness, respect, & sharing.
