I work full-time as a Certified Teaching Assistant in an Albany County Universal Pre-K program and have significant experience as a facilitator of other youth programming. Over the last several years, I've worked with kids aged 3 to 18 in both educational and recreational capacities. During the 2013-2014 school year, I worked as a teaching intern with the Albany Free School, an PreK-8 alternative school which encourages experiential learning, creative inquiry and intellectual self-determination. In that setting, I led small group classes, completed custodial duties, helped students mediate conflicts, and encouraged kids' self-expression through a variety of activities. I've also worked as an SAT/ACT Exam Prep Tutor with Huntington Learning Center, where I furnished high school students with reading comprehension strategies, writing skills and effective study habits. In 2012, I had the privilege of working with Sherman Lake YMCA's Integrated Education Camp in the role of overnight cabin counselor. I was also charged with providing a safe and positive atmosphere for children. In addition, I led and participated in camp activities, accompanied my cabin groups to meals and games, helped students formulate Community Commitments, and maintained Sherman Lake safety standards. All of these concrete responsibilities supported a more abstract set of goals: To improve students' self-esteem, relationship-building skills, and goal-setting abilities; to foster teamwork, critical thinking, and character improvement; and to strengthen students' connection to their respective communities and schools. I received my NYS Teaching Assistant Level I certification in May 2014 and possess current certifications in First Aid and CPR/AED.
