I am s mother of 5 adult children. The youngest was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 5. I worked extensively educating myself with Autism Spectrum Disorders, although I prefer to think of it not as a disorder but being aneurotypical. He was mainstreamed into the Shenendehowa school district and graduated with a Regents Diploma. I spent many years volunteering and chaperoning for all of my children. I have a degree in Substance Abuse Counseling but I preferred working as a Special Education Aide at all levels in the school system. I know the challenges and the great rewards working with this population. I am artistic and enjoy doing crafts with kids. I am considered by my peers to be calm and invested in the children I have worked with. I consider myself to be fun.
