I had the honor of supervising Ms. Neomie Gonzalez at the Regional Enrichment Center 11X106 operating in District 11. She worked as a paraprofessional from March-through September. At a time of great risk during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Gonzalez was willing to jump to the call-to-action to provide emergency child care for first responders, healthcare providers, and other essential workers. During this unprecedented time, Neomie demonstrated great flexibility and resourcefulness as we transformed the emergency operation into a robust child care organization while adapting to the evolving crisis. Ms. Gonzalez worked with our Prekindergarten students. She was able to establish a fully functional Pre-Kindergarten classroom. She established effective routines and structures that promoted learning and socialization. Her skill set was beyond that of a paraprofessional. At the REC, Ms. Gonzalez was assigned to work with the 3k and Prekindergarten students. Ms. Gonzalez was an exceptional arts and crafts teacher. The students created collages, murals, sculptures, and paintings that decorated the classroom walls and the walls of the REC site. The students were also proud to show off all their hard work to anyone passing by. The children leaving her REC classroom are well prepared for school in the fall.
