Hi! My name is Asher, and I am excited to share a little bit about myself. Originally from Southern California, I have been living on the east coast for the last 3 years and happy to call New York City home. Initially, I moved to the city to pursue my directing career. But as COVID has put the theatre industry on hold, I have decided to shift gears to my other love: education and childcare. Growing up, my mother was an early childhood educator and around the age of 12 I began volunteering in her classes regularly. This sparked my interest in childcare and education. From there, I volunteered in various early childhood education programs around my hometown for 5 years. Throughout high school and college, I also took many specialized child development and psychology courses that have contributed to my care skillsets and styles. At 15, I also began Read more my career as a theatre educator. From 2011 to 2019, I worked as a director, choreographer, teaching artist, and executive artistic associate for multiple nonprofit youth theatre programs based in Southern California. Through these programs, I worked with students from ages 4-18. Not only was I training kids in the arts, but through the training, my students learned real-life communication, leadership, and self expression skills. Most recently, I served as an Associate Teacher in 2nd grade at Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn during the 2020/2021 school year. To consistently be able to support kids and their families by offering a safe and nurturing space during one of the most tumultuous and uncertain school years of our lifetime was a privilege and learning experience I won't soon forget. As a childcare provider and educator, I truly believe that every child is an individual and should be nurtured as such. While setting clear boundaries and guidelines for them are a must, I believe it is equally as vital to hear a child out and be sure to validate and respect their feelings, wants, and needs.
