I was a babysitter for many years and then a full time nanny for two boys that I loved very much. The younger one, 2 at first and 3 when I moved away, was speech delayed. I spent hours with the toddler reading and practicing talking. We would do puzzles together and he would point to the different shapes and images and try to say them. I am proud to say that he is now saying complex and even imaginative sentences. His older brother and I spent more time playing games, especially ones that meant running around. As a runner myself I kept up with him easily and would boast my ability to keep up with the energy of any child. Finally, I grew up with a brother with Down syndrome so I feel very capable of handling any type of kid.
