I have always worked with children in one facet or another. Throughout my youth there were many years of babysitting, teaching swim lessons, and coaching youth figure skating. When choosing a path after high school, studying childhood education was only natural. I purely enjoy working with children of all ages, and have had the opportunity to do so within many different work environments, thus enabling not only an academic relationship; but, also enabling the development of social and emotional connections to the kids I work with as well. After completing my Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Ed. and working briefly as a 3rd and 6th grade teacher in upstate NY; I decided to return home and complete my Master’s Degree in School Counseling K-12, where I would be more able to tap into the social and emotional aspects of today’s youth and the impacts on their academics and all around progress Read more and growth as a student and individual. During my graduate studies I worked primarily as a substitute teacher, but also maintained several families with whom I would sit for, either on my days off, weekends, or summers. I still had not maintained a full-time teaching or guidance position in this region. Somewhere within that time, I was introduced through a referral to a more “full time” family interested in having me work for them. At the time I was unsure if I was making the correct career choice given my education, credentials, and certifications. Now, unbelievably 6 years later there is no doubt in my mind as to whether I made the right decision. That 1 newborn baby that I started working for back in 2009 is not only going into kindergarten this year but also has two beautiful siblings Bode 4, and Reese 2, all of which mean the world to me and I am proud to have helped raise. Much to the families’ dismay, as the children are getting older and the wife is no longer at risk of returning to work, my hours have slowly become less and less. If I had more freedom financially I would stay working for them infinitely, however the part time hours are just not enough.
