I began my journey with working with children in the 8th grade when I was asked to volunteer as an afterschool monitor for grades nursery to 3. During this after school program I would read books to nusurey students, and assist the high grades with their homework. This is when I fell in love with teaching. After I graduated middle school I began volunteering as a camp counselor at the summer camp my middle school hosted. In this camp I had many tasks, such as orginizing and supervising games and activities for the campers and facilitating homework assistance groups, (for the kids in summer school). I also was responsible for ensure all the camper were happy, safe, and fed. I did this for three summers. In the winter of 2017, I worked as a reading tutor for Read Alliance, a NYC DOE program. In this program I helped kindergarten and Read more first grade students who struggled with reading develop basic reading and pronunciation skills.
