I have a great deal of experience working with children. I have been babysitting for 15 years, for families in my hometown on Long Island and past residence in NYC on a regular basis, with children ranging from 3 to 12, including some with learning disabilities. The summer after graduating from high school (2010), I worked at a sleepaway camp in Milford, PA. I was in charge of fifteen 11-year-old girls, responsible for escorting them around the campgrounds for various activities, encouraging a well-balanced diet, making sure they were getting enough sleep, and most importantly, keeping them safe and happy. During the summer of 2011, I worked at a day camp on Long Island as a counselor for 4-year-old boys. Because the boys were so young, my primary responsibilities included changing the boys into swim-gear, changing diapers, teaching them basic swim techniques, dressing them after swimming, feeding them, and keeping Read more them safe and happy. I have been volunteering weekly on the children s oncology floor of a hospital since June of 2014. I create projects and organize games for 20 chemo patients while I recommend supportive services and educational resources to parents regarding their child s treatment. This summer, I will be working with blind high school students helping them acclimate to college life. Following that, I will be working with blind children and their families some having learning disabilities as well where I will be teaching the family skills that will help them navigate their world through their blind child's eyes. I was a nanny for 4 families in NYC. I took 1 child home from school everyday and on occasion watch her in the evening. I escorted another child to and from occupational and physical therapy where I implement what the teacher has instructed for her. I'm very creative and enjoy doing artistic projects with children. I know how important reading and being creative is to a young child s brain development, and I prefer reading over watching TV. I have no problem doing light housekeeping, errands, laundry and making dinner, helping with homework, etc. I LOVE to clean, so tidying up after dinner/in general is no problem at all! I have worked with kids with physical, mental and developmental disabilities as well.
