Hi! My name is Emily Lokenauth, and I’m a graduate student pursuing my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at Mercy University. I have a strong background in working with children and adults with a wide range of needs, especially those with autism, developmental disabilities, neurological disorders, and complex medical conditions. Through my clinical externships and volunteer work in special education settings, including a BOCES school, I’ve gained hands-on experience supporting nonverbal communicators using AAC devices (including eye gaze systems), promoting safe feeding and swallowing strategies, and fostering communication and social engagement in fun, meaningful ways. What I love most about being a sitter is building genuine connections with kids and helping them feel safe, heard, and understood. I bring patience, empathy, and creativity to every interaction! Whether I’m playing, helping with routines, or supporting developmental and communication needs, I ensure the comfort of the kids I care for. I have academic Read more training in behavior management, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices through my work as a student and as the President of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force. These experiences have taught me how to adapt my approach to every child’s unique strengths, background, and learning style! My work in speech therapy has shown me how powerful it is when kids feel seen and supported, and I bring that mindset into every caregiving role.
