Meet Amanda

I have been working with kids for as long as I can remember. I started babysitting when I was 13 for many of my mother's clients and quickly built relationships with several families that I cared for throughout high school and college. I was an afterschool dance coach for 3 years in high school and spent my summers teaching at a theatre day camp. During the school year I was also part of a program tutoring elementary and middle school children in math, reading, and science. I have my Bachelor's in theatre arts with an emphasis in creative dramatics for childhood education. While attending school full time, I also babysat for several professors part-time. After graduating, I was immediately hired as a dance/theatre instructor at the Art Museum of South Texas and as a dance teacher for Instep Dance Studios. I held both positions for 1 1/2 yrs before moving Read more to New York. Since settling down here in the city, I have been a nanny for two different families and babysat part time for several others. I have an immense passion for children and education. I am currently working on returning to school for my Master's in education, hoping to teach preschool-6th grade. I love teaching kids and getting them involved in activities that inspire them or make them think. I love the outdoors and frequently do my best to get the kids out from in front of the TV or computer and outside, playing games, visiting museums, hiking, biking, etc. I also love to cook and also do light housekeeping if needed. Most importantly I am certified in pediatric and adult CPR/First Aid response. Above all else, I am a positive, patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic person. To me working with kids is more fun and play than anything else - I enjoy every minute of it and it brings out the best in me.
