Meet Geneva

I am currently a graduate student in the School of Social Work at Columbia University. I have been an intern at the Administration for Children's Services over the past academic year and have had the opportunity to provide counseling and advocacy for kids in the foster care system from age 10 to 18. I believe with the right support system and appreciation every child can succeed. Before moving to New York, I taught for two years abroad, one year in Thailand and the other in Korea. I loved the experience, and got to spend my days teaching children from ages 4-12 English in groups ranging from 3 to 35 students. I learned that kids perform much better when treated with compassion, patience and genuine acceptance. During my time between jobs I also traveled and taught in charity schools for short periods of time in India and Laos. Even though I Read more spent only one month in each, I gained a great appreciation for the culture and learning styles of the children. Of course, my best experiences were while playing enriching games and doing activities that promoted a positive environment. These experiences will be very helpful in a babysitting and nannying environment.
