Hello, My name is Michelle Martinez and I am 24 years old. I recently ended my service year with an amazing non-profit organization called City Year New York as an Americorps Member. Prior to my service year I worked as a babysitter for almost 2 years for a family on the Upper East Side while in school. I received my B.A in Forensic Psychology from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am a first generation college student who comes from a humble but very hard working family. My experience with children are the following: Most recently I served as an Americorps Member with City Year at an East Harlem P.S/M.S school. There I provided in-class support to 31 7th grade students and conducted small group and one-on-one tutoring to improve literacy and math skills. I created quality lesson plans that build student’s Social Emotional Learning skills by fostering Read more responsible decision making and self-awareness through hands-on activities and in-depth discussions.Finally, I helped coordinate and develop an after-school program for 60 elementary school students including tutoring and facilitating enrichment activities. I also volunteered briefly as a reading tutor in a public school for the Change for Kids non-profit. While in high school I participated in an after-school program where i had the opportunity to support the lead performing arts teacher in teaching elementary school children dance choreography in preparation for performances hosted in the school's auditorium. I was also a summer camp counselor which was affiliated with the same performing arts program but the focus was more on school enrichment activities.
