My name is Marcy, and I find caring for children to be the best kind of work, as you laugh and hear creative stories and get to be around joyful people! I earned my dual BA in Early Childhood Education/ and Literature at Hunter College, and was a classroom teacher for 9 years before having my own sweet baby. I have been working for private families since I was a teenager; that has involved childcare, cooking, pet care, and sometimes elder care, and have adapted recipes for special diets (gluten free/vegetarian.) I have experience with children with various learning differences, health issues, and multiples, and I approach every child as an individual with unique qualities and their own personal styles. Specifically, I have experience with dyslexia, occular motor dysfunction, leukemia management, speech delays, sensory motor issues, Aspergers syndrome, and ADHD. As a lifetime New Yorker, navigating public transportation is very Read more familiar and comfortable for me. I recently finished 7 years with an amazing family! I like to use story books and drawing as springboards to help children express themselves and explore ideas. I think hands on experiences and learning by engaged discovery are the best ways to encourage lifetime learners. I believe that children are inherently smart, and that they just don't always have the vocabulary to express all that they know. By being patient and listening, I seek to help them navigate and build on all the information they are exposed to. I enjoy cooking and providing early kitchen experiences as a ways of teaching math and science concepts. I am also happy to be around friendly pets. Safety is always my first priority when caring for children, and I believe modeling appropriate behavior and positive reinforcement are the best ways to encourage a child towards their healthy development and self esteem. I would welcome any questions you may have, and am happy to provide references who can share their experiences and thoughts. Thank you for your interest.
