Meet Azeb

  • Comfortable with pets

I spent most of my life in the greater Seattle, WA area with my parents and two brothers. I’ve always been interested in creative outlets and helping those around me. When I was around 14 I was a part of a youth activist group were we learned about different social justice movements and developed our own way of getting involved and raising awareness. I decided that film was the best platform for me and started a Social Justice Film Club at school my Junior year. Later on I got the opportunity to delve into radio journalism through KUOW/NPR which has a program called RadioActive Youth Media. Since my senior of high school I’ve been making feature, and podcast stories for them that range from the topic of art, defining feminism through war, and the LGBTQ+ community. I’ve also had the chance for the last couple of summers to mentor youth Read more around the ages of 8-13 on the different elements of film such as storytelling, editing, set design, animation/green screen, characters etc through SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival). I spent the summer after I graduated high school in a language and cultural immersion trip to Veracruz, Mexico as well as traveled around the U.K with a friend of mine. I found putting myself out there and getting out of my comfort zone to be really beneficial for me as a person. Working with youth is very fulfilling and challenging in the best way possible for me. Growing up and being 7 years older than my younger brother put me in the position of caregiver a lot of the time. As well as being one of the oldest cousins in the family kinda made me the designated babysitter. With that I naturally and gradually gained the skills to take care kids varying in age and abilities. From infants to youth in their late teens. I even have experience taking care of kids on the autism spectrum, and those who have speech delay. Growing up in that environment has given me the skills, knowledge and experience in nurturing and mentoring youth. I enjoy the way it pushes me mentally by giving me patiences and expanding my worldview, which is why I’d like to become a sitter for you and your family! In Solidarity, Azeb
