Before entering my current role as a project specialist for IQVIA, I completed an eleven month service program through City Year Boston as a first-year AmeriCorps member for Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School in Roxbury, Massachusetts. I provided small group and one-on-one intervention in attendance, behavior, and coursework to seventh grade students, as well as whole classroom support in three math classes. I also offered support in Orchard Gardens’ extended day program through the Boys and Girls Club by providing homework help and engaging in various enrichment activities with first, second, and third grade students. I had the opportunity to meet students from every grade level by volunteering for several field trips throughout the year. From Boston’s Museum of Science to apple picking and a three day field trip on Thompson Island, my team leaders consistently requested me to be a chaperone. Lastly, I would like to highlight the numerous Read more events I organized for school teams such as middle school dances and field days. Helping to organize these events taught me the importance of effective communication. As a nanny, I would make consistent communication with parents/families a priority. My childcare experience also includes caring for a family friend’s five-year-old son with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is a very bright and adventurous child with a high level of curiosity. I am now one of very few people whom his parents trust to care for their child. My relationship with him has broadened my understanding of child development and opened my eyes to different ways of engaging with children. This has given me substantial experience in understanding and handling a variety of behavioral and emotional issues. Together, these experiences have fostered the patience, understanding, and resilience necessary for a strong childcare candidate.
