***NON-DRIVER*** ABOUT ME : Age 30, bachelor's degrees in sociology and philosophy from Columbia University (2008), manuscript and proposal editor and submission consultant by day, literacy and reading comprehension tutor by evening. I am happy to help with homework as part of my standard fee, and for a slightly higher fee I will formally tutor your child while I am sitting for them, using materials other than homework, in the subject area(s) of your choice. In addition to the few hours per week I could take on currently, I am also seeking regular hours over the summer (2-3 hours, up to 5 days per week). For overnight jobs, my rate Read more drops to $12/hour from midnight until parents/caregivers come home.   EXPERIENCE: I started sitting 15 years ago when a neighbor's son was born.  He is now 18 years old and I have sat for him throughout his life and the lives of his younger brothers, the youngest of which just turned six.  My time with them grew short after I moved to Manhattan from Long Island to attend Columbia.  I have also babysat for two girls, ages 6 and 8, who have since moved to Atlanta; and three boys, ages 14, 13, and 5, for about 10 years. Most recently, I've sat for a girl from when she was 7 until age 9 (whose mother, Riva, found me on this very site!) and a boy from age 1 until he was 3. I've left these charges when moving from NYC to the Bay Area (CA), but both mothers are listed under References. I have just recently moved back to NYC and am seeking new charges! In Fall 2008-Spring 2009 I supervised an after-school program at PS 57 in East Harlem.  We offered Homework Help, lessons and projects centered around civic duty and community building. I also supervised the Great Leaps Literacy Tutoring program, whereby members of my team (myself included) tutored students 1-on-1 throughout the school day; and the Bringing Books to Life program, a reading comp and drama program.
