Hi! My name is Q and I am recent graduate (December 2014) of CUNY City College with a degree in Psychology with a focus in Childhood/Family Development. I also have an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Bard College. I have been a caregiver since I was 13, which began with being a teachers assistant for an elementary school. From there I have been a babysitter/nanny (for 9 years), a camp counselor (for 3 years), and have tutored and mentored along the way.  For the past 2.5 years, I have worked as a nanny with one family that has a five year old girl and an eleven year old boy. The type of families that I provide care to are usually families with 2 to 3 children. They usually range from the ages of 2 to 13. At Camp Yomawha, I was a counselor for one year with an all Read more girl group ages 7 to 8. The other two years I had a mixed gender group with ages 8 to 9. I do not have any children, but I do have three siblings (I am the oldest) aged 18, 11 and 9, who I have also provided care for. I have a dog named Chester, who I take on walks and feed, along with a chubby cat named Fat/Honey Cat. My experience also comes from the volunteer work that I do. At my previous college, I was a Bonner Scholar, which is a volunteer based award. At the community center (AMIGOS/Townsend) I helped watch, play, tutor, and create activities with kids aged 1-13, while their parents were taking ESL classes in the next room. I have been a mentor and activity facilitator for middle schoolers aged 12 - 15 (Corazon Latino) and for high school girls aged 14-17 ("Get Like Me").  My caregiving philosophy is to try and make things fun. Whether it be homework, chores, or any life issue, I believe that it is important to be able to look at difficult tasks in life and instead of turning it down, take it on as a challenge that you're capable of doing. I love being able to help kids be their best self :)
