I hired Juliann at $12/hr, even though my job posting on Sittercity was for $10/hr because she came to the interview so prepared and I was impressed. During that interview, I told her we would be moving about half an hour farther away when the sale of our new house finalized, which she said she was okay with. During the roughly 2 months Juliann worked for us as a mother’s helper, 1 or 2 days a week (she canceled on us a few times, giving weak excuses), I often had to care for my children myself. I would gently remind her of the rules of our home and they didn’t quite seem to stick with her. Despite claiming to have experience with toddlers, she didn’t seem to know how to handle one who is fairly well-behaved for the age group. Worse, he’s an outdoor kid and she would refuse to take him outside unless I directly told her to do so. She even went as far as to not bring her coat so she wouldn’t have to try. When we finally closed on our new home, she texted me, asking for $15/hr, claiming gas costs and wear and tear on her vehicle. When I told her we would have to further discuss in person, she told me she was no longer interested. She knew coming In that my son was going through a lot of change, with a new baby and then a big move. As an early childhood major, she should know what so much change, combined with a caregiver leaving, can do to a child who’s so young. This age group is prone to getting attached to people, which is why I don’t take hiring caregivers lightly. My son has already been asking for her. I am extremely dissatisfied and upset about the way Juliann acted after I warmly welcomed her into my family. There are other details that negatively speak to her character but do not directly pertain to caring for my children and this review is already long enough.
