Hi, I'm Kate! I live in Brighton (where I grew up) with my husband and son and our four cats. I'm a freelance writer/editor, but because my hours are part-time and flexible, I am flexible with my availability as well. (Let's talk!) I went to Brighton schools and I have a master's degree. I started babysitting back when I was a young teenager. Granted, I haven't done as much of it lately, but four years ago I had a child of my own! I believe in positive reinforcement, using redirection to respond to inappropriate behavior (and following through with mutually-understood consequences if needed, if the child is old enough), saying "no" when necessary, and modeling kindness to and empathy for people and animals. Not to mention having fun! :) My son has turned me into an extremely patient person. He was a high-needs baby (never wanted to put down, etc.) Read more and was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder with possible ADHD. We have a lot of fun together but deal with many challenges as well. I like spending time with kids in all sorts of ways: playing board games, doing pretend play, going on nature walks (and maybe making a collage with what we find!), reading books (or making them!), doing arts & crafts, building with Legos, etc. I am a nonsmoker and I am very comfortable with pets around, big or small. If I'm caring for your child and your dog needs to be let out, or your cat needs to be played with, I can do that as well! Just a few things so you can get to know me better: I like reading, photography, thrifting, baking, listening to all kinds of music, and spending time with family and friends. I like to laugh and to make other people laugh. (Note: My CPR/First Aid certification has expired in the last year or two, but I am planning to retake the course as soon as I can).
