I became a caregiver when I completed a Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, in 1997. I then worked 2 years in a Teen Parent Program, as a Parenting Educator. In 1999 I applied for a state licensed position as a Program Supervisor at a residential program for adults with mental health diagnoses. After 4 years, I was promoted to Executive Director there. The past 14 years I have been fully engaged in that employment role. I now find myself ready to step down from that level of state accountability, with the never ending paper trail now required. Program goals in that position have shifted administrative requirements to almost 100% computer documentation, with little time for engaging with people face to face... In considering a new direction for fulfillment of the joy of engaging people in their own development, the birth of my grandson 6 Read more years ago has put me back in touch with the satisfaction I derived from raising my own 3 children. I was born the eldest of 5, and was involved in supervising my four younger siblings at a fairly young age. I enjoy children and find their energy and curiosity for exploring their environment rewarding and rejuvenating. I have maintained CPR and First Aid certification for the past 18 years, and am currently Certified.
