I grew up living with my sister and her child, who is now 10 years old. Since I was in the seventh grade, I would help take care of my nephew by picking him up from after-school activities, playing with him, helping him with his homework, preparing meals for him, and babysitting him when my sister was busy with work. Growing up with my nephew gave me a strong appreciation for children and how curious and intelligent they can be. Everyday my nephew amazed me with his knowledge of the world and the things that he found interesting. Now that I'm a rising senior in college, I don't get to see my nephew as often but when I do get to see him, they are the times that I appreciate the most. From time to time, when I come back home on the weekends, I will look after him. My Read more passion for taking care of children and helping them further their knowledge, whether it be tutoring or teaching them how to play a new sport or game, followed me into college. During my summer of my freshman year, I worked as a conference assistant at Stony Brook University. As conference assistant, I interacted with children from the ages of 6 to 12 who came to Stony Brook's campus on different scholarships. My responsibilities included taking them to lunch and class, creating arts and crafts with them, and being an overall support system for them. While I do not have any certifications, I have worked with children in the past and I am someone who is reliable, fun, and caring.
