Hi! My name is Catherine, and I have worked with children professionally for fifteen years! After attending UAlbany to study special education and literacy (dual masters program), I have been working at with students with special needs for the past two-and-a-half years! The population I serve are students with behavior challenges, and I find it so rewarding to see my students grow throughout the school year!! Prior to graduate school, I worked as both a teaching assistant and substitute teacher at the Albany Academies. There, I gained experience working with children ages preK through 12th grade. One of my favorite experiences was working at the after-school program where I had an opportunity develop personal relationships with the students and their families! For nineteen months, I was a full-time (32+ hrs/week) nanny for a family of three children, ages 11, 8, and 3. I prepared breakfast for the school-aged children, got Read more them on/off the bus, helped with homework, and played with them inside and outside. The majority of my time was spent with their three-year-old son. During our daily reading time, I rotated working on different concepts such as colors, shapes, opposites, the alphabet, etc. I also focused on a second concept such as the zoo, construction vehicles, holidays, etc. Each day we also sang a number of songs; some were educational, and some were not. Every day we sang songs about the days of the week, months of the year, the alphabet, and the weather. He and I enjoyed painting (with our fingers and with brushes), coloring, and playing with playdough. We had fun playing outside -swinging on the swings, bike rides, and baseball were three favorite activiites The two of us also went on a number of outings, such as to the circus, Indian Ladder Farms, and the Crossings in Colonie, and spent a lot of time with his grandparents on both sides of his family. I continue to have a close relationship with this family, 9 years later! Prior to this, I worked in the infant classroom at a highly-regarded childcare center in Albany. I held this position on a full-time, part-time, and substitute basis throughout college and afterward, for a total of about six years. I absolutely loved working with infants! In fact, I am still in contact with multiple families I met at this childcare center 12 years ago!
