Meet Martha

I have always had an affinity for the curiosity, innocence and inhibition of children and that, in many ways, they serve as a teacher to remind us of what is truly important. I have an M.Ed in School Counseling and have worked with elementary as well as middle school students. Though there is no job experience that prepares us for motherhood until it happens! I have been a stay at home mom to two daughters, 12 and 7, for the past 12 years, while it was not my intent to stay out of the workforce for this long, I did not have the family or connections in Maui to feel comfortable in leaving them ( I had moved there from NH) I have put all that I have into each day; picnics, nature walks, reading, playing make believe, lots of sand sculptures, playing in the waves and exploring it's beauty. Read more Though like many mothers ( I'd venture to even say most of us!), there are days I have to summon every last ounce of strength to play charades, bake or drag out the ribbons, paint, buttons and clay, those days I simply dig in or persuade them to listen to music or engage in an independent activity ( where would so many geniuses of our time be had they not been bored once in a while!) That's not to say an episode of Little House on the Prairie or a princess dvd hasn't been my saving grace over the years. As they grow and need less attention of that kind, they have a strong and loving sister bond and I'd like to think that their confidence and compassion is due, at least in part, to their early years. The last job I held was as the child care director at the Episcopal church, Holy Innocents, on Maui. I am nurturing and creative and just as I feel everyone is born with a special gift or talent, I think that mine is connecting and loving children. I am interested in evening and weekend opportunities or week days that allowed time for drop off at 9:00 and pick up at 3:00. Thank you for your interest in my story. Oh, I just thought of one more thing.. before I was a school counselor I was a flight attendant ( The opportunity presented itself and I figured I needed a break after graduate school) there punctuation was absolutely necessary as well as competence in medical emergencies and often stressful situations.
