Hi, my name is Shalyn Rivera, and I’m currently a third-year student at the University of Oregon majoring in Advertising in the School of Journalism and Communication, with a minor in Business Administration. I would describe myself as a determined, open-minded, responsible, and creative individual. Taking care of children has always felt natural to me because I began taking care of my nieces and nephews at a young age. The simple yet memorable moments of making the kids laugh, smile, and having fun is what I value and reminds me why I enjoy working with kids. Knowing that we (family, friends, teachers, babysitters,…) leave major impact to children who are constantly learning about the world. As their curiosity and intelligence grow, it’s rewarding to know that even small interactions can help support their confidence, creativity, and development. Most of my professional experience with children began in high school when I Read more studied Early Childhood Education. During that time, I completed an internship and volunteer hours working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and third-grade students. I spent most of my time working in the infant classroom at a daycare center, where I helped care for babies and one-year-olds. Building routines and schedules was important, especially when caring for multiple infants at once. These opportunities allowed me to support children’s learning, daily routines, and early development in safe and engaging environments. Through my Early Childhood Education program and work experience, I completed several trainings related to childcare and safety, including Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect, Safe Sleep for Oregon’s Infants, Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety, and Food Handler certification. I was also trained in PediatricPlus CPR, AED, and First Aid for infants, children, and adults. My strengths include communication, organization, leadership, and adaptability. I’m comfortable assisting with learning activities, homework support, daily routines, and creating a safe, structured, and engaging environment for children. Parents can expect clear communication, reliability, and commitment from me. I value building trust with families and making sure expectations, schedules, and routines are respected.
