Meet Mariana

Hello! I am the eldest sister of two wonderful little brothers, and I have had the great task of looking after them as my parents always worked long shifts growing up. One is now 16 (ah! A teenager), and one is turning 5 soon (people always think he is mine because of our age difference). Taking care of them and seeing them grow up has been so amazing, and is what has encouraged me to want to be a sitter for other children as well. My most recent experience working with children was at IMPACT, a physical activity program for children and youth with special needs. We had weekly sessions in which I would help to keep them engaged, including modifying activities so that my participant was able to do the activity, such as when we were playing soccer, tennis, or swimming. Some other experience I have is working as a ScienceWorks summer camp counselor (four years), with the children's ages in the summer camp separated into two different age groups; 3-5 years (1 Year), and Pre-k to 6th (3 years) grade. Additionally, I have been a "My Future My Choice" volunteer where I was trained to teach a class on age-appropriate sex ed to middle school students (6th and 8th grade) for three years. I have a God Daughter who is now 7, and I have helped look after her since she was born, as well as my two little brothers, and keeping my volunteer experience in mind, it is safe to say I have always been surrounded by children, and I find it a ton of fun hanging out and helping out with them. I am currently a college student double majoring in psychology and kinesiology and have been super interested in becoming a teacher or counselor in the future with younger populations, so this is something that is a part of my life.
