I've been babysitting since I was in high school. During my undergrad, I went to the University of Oregon for biology and anthropology, and I babysat for neighbors and friends on the weekends. Now, I'm a science writer. Many of my stories come from young people asking me really simple, great questions like: Do you and I see the same colors? Why does my cat have such long whiskers? I'll go research the questions, come back with an answer for them the following day, then hopefully write a more in-depth story about it later on. In December, I graduated from NYU's master's program in science journalism. I currently have a fellowship with Audubon Magazine, but plan to enter the world of freelance journalism come June. This is exactly the career I've been wanting, so much that I'm willing to forgo the certainty of a regular paycheck to write stories that Read more I really care about. I want to split my time between writing and baby sitting because I love learning from and teaching kids. While most of my time is spent writing, I'm also a big fan of cooking - lots of vegetables and fruit. Mom taught me well. I also draw and do a bit of photography and read anything and everything when I can. Right now, I look after a 16-month-old and an 9-month-old a couple times a month. I'd like to find something a little more regular and I'm comfortable with most every age group. My older sister is mentally disabled, has never been able to speak or walk, so I'm also comfortable being around children who interact with the world in a different way than the rest of us.
